Pals

This image was permanently etched into my eleven year old brain. Butch and Sundance,  one of the top ten greatest films, celebrated the intrinsic beauty of true friendship.

I have been blessed with several such unions in my life, some have passed on, some moved away, and even a couple have betrayed that sacred trust. I'm very lucky to say I still enjoy

a few true friends I can always count on. Someone who would not only die for you, but would kill for you and help you hide the body.

Of course, my most loyal friend for over 50 years, is my wife Elizabeth. She has supported and stood by me through all the difficult times and made the good times even better just by her presence.

But the friendship between two men is markedly different in the fact it is largely unspoken. Like two old lions on the plains, territories and boundries are assumed and accepted without a word.

Friendships like these are precious and rare and lend great umami to the feast of life we are privileged to share.

Here's to all the friends who can laugh with you while standing at the cliff edge of the unknown and gleefully leap.
